Use Search Analytics to Improve Your Store
The Search Analytics dashboard (Pro feature) reveals what customers are searching for, helping you identify opportunities to improve product discovery and catalog gaps.
Accessing Analytics
- Go to Extensions > Extensions > Modules
- Edit "Smash Smart Search + Filters"
- Navigate to the Analytics (Pro) tab
Understanding the Dashboard
Total Searches
The total number of searches performed on your store. Track this over time to understand search usage patterns.
Unique Queries
Number of distinct search terms used. A high ratio of unique queries to total searches suggests diverse customer intent.
No Results Count
Searches that returned zero products. This is your opportunity list!
Today's Searches
Quick view of today's activity to spot any issues or trends.
Top Searches Report
Shows the most popular search terms on your store:
- Search Query: What customers typed
- Search Count: How many times it was searched
- Avg Results: Average number of products returned
What to Do:
- Ensure top-searched products are easy to find
- Consider creating category pages for popular searches
- Add popular search terms to product titles/tags
No Results Report
This is gold! Shows searches that found nothing:
Common Causes:
- Misspellings: Add common misspellings as product tags
- Synonyms: Customers use different words than your product names
- Missing Products: Products customers want but you don't carry
- Brand Names: Searching by brand when you use generic names
Optimization Steps:
- Review no-result searches weekly
- Add synonyms and common misspellings to product tags
- Consider adding products that are frequently searched
- Create redirects from common searches to relevant categories
Click-Through Tracking
When enabled, tracks which products customers click from search results. Use this to:
- Identify products that attract clicks (optimize their pages)
- Find products that never get clicked (improve titles/images)
- Understand customer intent better
Best Practices
- Review analytics weekly to spot trends
- Fix top no-result searches first (highest impact)
- Use data to inform product naming decisions
- Clear analytics periodically to keep data relevant
